5 Stars Beautiful!
I received my Sapphire Blue Kindle 2 cover about two weeks sooner than expected. It’s a beautiful color and a high-quality product (the Kindle 2 fits securely in the diagonal tabs). I’m very pleased!!!

4 Stars It’s okay for now
Great color, terrific concept however I wish that they would have used velcro for the closure as opposed to the current design of inserting the tab in the narrow space provided. It bends and eventually will probably not work as well. I have already added a piece of velcro and am much happier. Put it this way, it is way better than the one sold by Amazon.com.

5 Stars this cover is exactly the right one for me.
when i first saw this cover i really hated the idea of the ’steno-pad’-type configuration. but after thinking about it for several days, i ended up ordering the platform cover for two reasons.

1. i *need* my kindle to stand up sometimes. cooking. eating a sandwich. knitting.. and 2. i am a heavy keyboard annotator; i thumb-type on my kindle2 with my hands in ‘text-messaging’ position. so in the end i did not want the cover to fold on the left.

now that i have the cover in hand, i know that i have made the correct choice.

re. standing the cover. one can flip the cover back, stick the end of the closure tab into its slot/pocket with the cover inside out, and it will stand. this places the device at a fairly upright angle. at this point, the fold can be futzed with. talley (above) has noted elsewhere (?) that if the closure tab is left loose, one can achieve a steeper angle. this has been my experience as well, so i consider the standing angle to be a more or less adjustable feature.

the front and back covers are both very stiff, fairly thick boards. this was a desired feature; if it had come in at all squishy and flexible, i’d have sent it back. i wanted this for screen protection.

the cover is lined with a fuzzly light-grey synthetic suede. i believe the lining color is the same for all of the m-edge k2 covers. this lining is a good thing, as it helps to keep the device from sliding around. it sits securely in its corners. if the cover is folded back completely, the fake suede also keeps the k2 in its cover from falling off of one’s lap.

i ordered ’sapphire’, so it would stand out. (don’t want to sit on it by accident.) to my eye it seems to be quite a saturated, deep turquoise; depending on the light it can also look teal-blue. it is far more blue than green, but is not as luminous as it appears on the amazon site — for those who care. i didn’t. note: it is really really shiny. i kind of hope this will change as it ages. it also smells a bit; i’ve heard that this should dissipate.

the cover measures 6-3/8″ x 8-3/4″ (roughly 16.5 x 22.5cm), and is juuuust shy of 1″ (2.5cm) thick. so get out your tape measure. the photos online make it look far narrower. weight is 1 lb 3-3/4 oz., or ca. 562g with k2 (and no light yet) inside. mine fits just fine in my normal (not very big) bag along with my other stuff.

the cover is about 1″ (2.5cm) wider than the kindle as one looks at it — to the left of the device. this space is for storing the m-edge e-luminator light (in product picture here @amazon) (sold separately). that is being re-designed. i plan to order one. to hold the light, there is a pocket under the kindle toward the top where a tab on the light assembly will slide in — presumably. i’ve heard that some people who have no plans to get the light hold the device by that edge, in their left hand, while reading. the inside of the front cover has a large pocket and a small pocket, both opening to the same side. neither is expandable. there’s a black elastic pen-loop at the top, at the cover-fold above where the kindle rides.

i ordered without a very good idea what to expect, as i ordered before very many people had them for the k2. i learned more from people who started receiving theirs during my 3-week wait for my cover to arrive.

for my needs, it is pretty perfect.

5 Stars A note on the color…
I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I agonized over which Kindle 2 cover to purchase. Like most people, I don’t have the disposable income to purchase a complete wardrobe for my reading device. These accessories can quickly add up! So, I wanted to make a good choice.

To be honest, I really liked the idea of a cover that opened like a book. I ultimately picked the M-Edge Platform Jacket because, as other’s have mentioned, the functionality of being able to stand the Kindle up for easy reading at meals and other times trumped any aesthetic consideration. Also, I really liked the idea of being able to have the (not-yet-available) M-Edge book light integrated right into the cover. Cost was also a consideration. This option seemed nicer than the basic Amazon cover, but is still one of the more moderate choices.

While I just said that functionality trumps looks, I have to admit that the color was a big issue for me. I love colors, and the shade of blue in the photos is fabulous. But everyone kept writing that the color shown is not accurate. I really wanted to know what to expect. Well, I’d call it more of a cyan than a teal, and I think it’s really gorgeous. To help others visualize the true color, I went to the Pantone color chart–which you can easily google.

Scroll down to Pantone 301. Holding up my cover to the screen, that’s the closest color to it. That little swatch looks somewhat dull, but it looks really great in leather. Oh, BTW, my leather is not shiny at all, and seems to be holding up well to wear and tear as I schlep the thing everywhere.

In conclusion, I really couldn’t be happier with my choice from the standpoint of looks, protection, and utility.

2 Stars This would make a good “dock”, and stands well, but it’s too big otherwise
I bought this cover because I wanted the steno configuration so the kindle would stand upright. It does that well, but I hate the extra ~inch on the left. It’s surprising how often it makes the difference in whether the Kindle fits someplace. This would be a perfectly adequate cover to use at home like a dock for a laptop, or in a briefcase, but it’s so much more cumbersome that I often take the cover off rather than put up with it.

The smooth leather finish does have a nice feature as it turns out — it’s very tacky, so the Kindle doesn’t slide off the car seat easily.

I kept this cover because I thought the light would fit in the space, but the light in the “often bought together” link sure doesn’t fit at all, and the light that fits in theory doesn’t seem to be available yet.

I do like to hold it by opening the cover all the way and putting the tab in from the back, then slipping my hand between the covers. I can hold it like that with one hand with very little effort.

The workmanship is excellent, but I still it fit the Kindle.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars The cover is great, but the LCD screen protector is not
I love the cover, it protects my kindle just fine and it’s still very light and not obtrusive, however the LDC screen protector reflects the light making it difficult to read (you can still read it but it is tired for the eyes). I gave it four stars because even if you don’t use the LDC it is still a good value for the money.

3 Stars Good Case Though There Could Be Improvement
I’m happy with my Kindle 2 Silicone case. It fits my Kindle well, is lightweight and translucent so that I can see the side buttons. Like one of the other reviewers noted, the case works well for at home reading. It is comfortable for me to hold my Kindle and read at my leisure. However, on my day-to-day commute to and from work or elsewhere, I use my Cole Haan leather cover (which I give 5 stars as I love it!). There are a couple of things that prevent me from giving this case 5 stars:

1. It doesn’t provide any protection for the keyboard. I’m not sure why the makers of this case wouldn’t provide any covering for the keyboard, but they don’t. I almost regret throwing away the plastic protective sheet that came with the Kindle’s packing.

2. As other reviewers mentioned, the screen protector is worthless. It is a dust and lint magnet. I use my case without the screen protector. Since I only use the case when I’m reading at home vs. when I’m carrying it in my purse or backpack, this point isn’t too big of a deal for me.

Overall, the case is worth the purchase if the two issues mentioned above don’t conflict with your needs. Otherwise, I’m sure there are other cases out there that provide good protection for the whole Kindle, body, keyboard and the screen.

3 Stars Really a 2.5
This cover is okay, but not what I was hoping for. If the fit was a little better it would be a 4-star product easily, but it just doesn’t fit tight enough to be more than about a 2.5. The edges aren’t cut cleanly in some places, but otherwise the overall quality is okay. I used a little double sided scotch tape to hold the edges down around the screen and keyboard. With the tape in place it’s good enough that I’ll continue using it until a better option comes along.

This was so close to being perfect. :(

3 Stars Doesn’t fit particularly well
The case is a bit loose on the Kindle, and there really is no reason for it. It is made fairly well though, and would get 5 stars if it fit better. The screen protector is OK, but i took it off to get a piece of dirt off and now it is useless. The screen protector is washable but you cannot dry it or it picks up every tiny piece of lint, and air drying leaves water spots all over it.

1 Star Awful.
The screen protector won’t apply very well. Good luck getting it on without any bubbles.

The skin barely fits on there. It’s loose and tacky.

I’m SO GLAD I spent money on this junk. Why doesn’t a respected, well-established company make screen protectors and skins for the Kindle? THAT’s what I want to know.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars perfect for my kindle2
I love this case for my Kindle2. It is small, yet padded enough to keep it safe for travel. The outside pouch is perfect for the power cable or if going on short trip, leave the cable home and stash my keys there. Have a little concern about how loose the device is in the corner straps, but so far it has not fell out, so I guess my concerns are unfounded.

5 Stars Classy
This protective lives up to its title. Protective and functional too. I recommend it anyone.

5 Stars Kindle Case
I am so pleased at the quality, and value of this item. It is stylish, protects my kindle without being bulky or cumbersome and has storage for my earphones or charging plug. I would highly recommend this item as a good value, for a great price.

5 Stars The PERFECT Kindle 2 case
This is the PERFECT Kindle 2 case. The large zippered section holds your Kindle securely, and the dual zippers allow you to charge it while in the case.

The outer pocket is large enough to hold a booklight, spare batteries, the Kindle charger, and earbuds.

Highly recommended!

5 Stars Protection Plus!
My original Kindle fell victim to a fall while housed in the cover it came with as well as being in a tote bag. I was very sad.

So when I purchased my Kindle 2… I looked for the most protective cover I could find. This is awesome!!! It’s very well padded, and I love the extra outer compartment for the power cord & ear buds. Being a little overly protective, I also purchase a SILICONE GEL SKIN for my Kindle 2.

[...]

I put it in the gel skin first, then put it in the outer cover. There’s no slipping for the Kindle now.

Can you tell I’m not loosing another Kindle to a fall? Best wishes for keeping your Kindle safe!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great companion for the DX
Does what it’s intended to do – protect the Kindle DX. The fit is a bit on the snug side but better than having it back and forth in the case. Only complaint is because it’s so snug, there’s the lower right hand corner which is difficult to get the zipper around. To solve this I simple bring both zippers to meet at this corner now. Definitely not a big issue to effect the rating. The material is very grippy. I don’t feel like it’s going to all of a sudden slip out of my hand. Great product.

I bought this along with M-Edge Executive Jacket so I can compare and decide which to keep…the Executive Jacket will be returned shortly. The EJ is more professional looking but a little clunky and difficult to hold with one hand.

3 Stars It is a good backup
This is a good backup. It protects the Kindle, but will not allow me to charge.

3 Stars Not exactly what I thought it would be…
This sleeve jacket is kind of small for the Kindle DX, even though it claims to be for the DX.

I like the fabric and the look of the sleeve, but it is a tight fit for the device. It really only acts as a protector for travel. I guess I was hoping for something that would act more like a cover while adding protection.

So I wasn’t entirely satisfied.

5 Stars Kindle DX slip case, Not cover.
First of all, my wife, (for whom I purchased the DX), likes her Kindle naked. So, we looked for jackets, or slip cases, Not covers. The qualities we were looking for include ruggedness, (or the products perceived longevity based upon quality of construction), ease of use for its’ intended purpose, and I added an attribute entitled Protection coeficient, or, how well it protects the Kindle under a variety of conditions.

Ruggedness: Neoprene has been around for awhile now, protecting notebook computers and the like. It seems to be upstaging ballistic nylon and even such notables as Tumi are starting to make cases out of it. It posseses a suppleness that ballistic nylon will never have; it feels smooth to the touch and is somewhat gripy under the fingers. If it works for laptops then we thought it must surely be a good application for the DX. We think that it is a better application of it’s attributes for use with the DX then it would be for a laptop. Personally I just do not think neoprene will stand up to a high pressure, sharp edged impact such as would occur if the corner of a laptop impacted a hard imoveable object while in the case. I think the neoprene would be pinch cut all the way through. For use as a DX jacket on the other hand, it works great! The DX is flat and unobtrusive by nature without a lot of inherent inertial weight. Combine that with the fact that it just goes against nature to throw your DX around and Neoprene is a great choice for this jacket. In addition, the stitching on the zippers and the quality of the zippers themselves is first rate. It cleans very easily with very mild soap and a little water. We tried this once and blotted the surface dry immediately. This resulted in a brand new looking surface and there was no bleed though of moisture that I could detect.

Ease of use: Some have complained that the jacket is too tight making it hard to get the DX zipped up. Well, it’s just my opinion but it needs to fit snuggly to pevent the DX from slipping around! It’s not so tight that you can’t zip it up; the Neoprene is stretchy and allows for just a little tugging. That’s all it takes. Ahh, the handle! What a nice touch. The handle will disappear inside it’s own zipped compartment if you don’t want it flopping around but when you need it for alternative ways to carry the DX, it’s there. There is also a zipped compartment to hold the USB/charging cord and I think it would work well for just the cord….Not the A/C charging adapter. The A/C adapter is just too bulky and I’d be concerned about it causing a presure point on either the DX screen or the alluminum case, (depending on how you have the DX inserted).

Protection coeficient: The Neoprene material is, I think, a great material for use as a DX jacket. Combine this with the fact that M-Edge has thought to add a semi-rigid panel just under the neoprene on both front and back sides, and this should provide all the protection the DX will need. Edges and corners are well padded although they do rely somewhat on the zippers for strength. More specfically, there are two rolled beads covered in nylon one on either side just behind the zipper that wrap around the entire edge of the DX. When zipped, the beads approximate between the DX and zipper. The whole edge protetion thing is I think, very well thought out. And of course, the flat inside fabric panels of the jacket are as soft and semi fuzzy as is gets.

To sum up, would I drop the DX within it’s zipped M-Edge jacket on a corner from a position about waist high? I won’t…but then it’s not supposed to be an aircraft alluminum, foan padded, shock proof enclosure. I happen to believe that for the $35 we spent we got just the right amount of protection and added versatility we could ask for.
