User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Not a single regret.
I was needlessly concerned when I read reviews critical of the bulk and standing feature. I have been using this product for a month now, and I love it.

The extra inch at the top and the left does not bother me at all. Unless you have a specific place to carry it that is exactly between the size of the case and the K2 w/o the case, the size should not be an issue. Perhaps, if you have child sized hands, it might trouble you. It weighs about the same as a hardback book.

I love the way I can stand it at an angle midway between 45 degrees and vertical. It’s perfect for setting on a table and reading without straining your neck by staring down for hours.

I used leather conditioner to prevent oils from my hands darkening the saddle strap. The two-tone leather is handsome as can be after a month of frequent use. It’s gorgeous. Even the elastic straps that hold the K2 in place have a small segment of real leather to keep it looking fine instead of surrendering to a plastic-y scrapbook look. I’m sure you could sparingly apply baby oil or petroleum jelly if you don’t have leather conditioner.

There are no scratches despite my rough handling. I toss it in a bag full of junk I take to work, and it has proven tough and enduringly beautiful. E-readers are too costly to put in my clumsy hands without extra protection. I feel comfortable that no matter how often I drop it, no harm will befall my K2.

In sum, unless they have special needs, I can’t see why anyone would find fault with this product. Go ahead, buy with confidence.

1 Star Don’t buy this product!
I bought one of these and it is so oversized, it is ridiculous. It appears to me that it was made for something else (kindle 1 perhaps?) and then the loops were moved to accommodate the kindle 2, but in both length and width there is a lot of leftover space. My kindle 2 barely fit in my purse with this cover on, and it was very bulky. So I turned around and bought the $29.99 cover from amazon, and it fits like a glove. It makes so much difference.

5 Stars Nice cover
This is a great cover for my kindle 2.

Pros:

- The cover is nicely padded, holds the kindle securely, and offers good overall protection for the kindle

- The leather is a soft, matte pebbled leather that feels and looks good

- The color combo looks great

- The stitching is clean

- I actually find it easier to press the page buttons with the cover on and flipped back – it provides a little more substance and resistance to the button push.

- The stand-up feature is functional. I did not have any of the reading angle problems reported by another reviewer. You can bend the cover to adjust the angle.

- I don’t mind the inch of space to the left of the kindle. I will probably get the light anyways, but even without the light it gives me some leverage to press the left hand buttons more easily

Cons:

- Leather seems like it gets scratched easily. In fact I already have an inch long scratch on it in the day that I’ve owned it.

- The lighter brown strap absorbs oils from your hand and already is darkening slightly, especially the little latch you’ll be handling frequently

- Adds some heft and weight to the slim kindle, but not too bad

3 Stars Good looking cover, not a good stand up though.
The pros: The cover is well made and the Kindle2 is secure in it. The stiching is even and the leather is of good quality. The inside is grey and the little pockets are well made.

The cons: When I ordered the cover the picture did not show the wide edge for the optional light. I don’t want to buy the light, so I have a little more than an inch of wasted space on that side. The kindle is off center in the case. And this really increases the size. I wouldn’t have ordered the case had I know that was going to be there. When they make design changes they should notify preorder customers. But they didn’t.

Also their customer service is hard to get a hold of. It takes days, sometimes, for them to answer an email. Which is why I’m not sending it back. They are to much trouble to deal with.

The case also does not read well standing up. It is designed, supposedly to read with the top folded behind, the leather strap put into the case as a stand. It stands at about a 180 degree angle, however, so you can’t read it as a stand on anything unless it is eye level. I’ve tried all kinds of ways, and none work, it won’t stand up unless it is 180 degrees. Very annoying. If you only want a case that you can fold the top over (behind) to read it is a good one. But beware of the extra inch on the readers left. I have small hands and so it adds a lot of fatigue.

5 Stars Love It!
Other reviews of this product were somewhat critical but I could not be happier. The quality of the leather and construction are top notch and the design is excellent for use with the Kindle2. I would highly recommend this cover for protection and function as it readily adapts to a stand for the Kindle2 as well.

Rapid Car Auto Charger for the Amazon Kindle 2 DX Gomadic Brand w TipExchange Technology

Custom designed to safely meet the needs of any nomadic professional; Gomadic Rapid Charger provides a versatile solution to the confusing mass of cords taking up space in your glove compartment; allowing you to safely focus on the road. In addition; this product; like all Gomadic products; is backed by a lifetime warranty.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars A Tad Short…But Gormadic is a Joy of a Company
This is a fine product and does what I expected it to. It recharges my Kindle just fine as it should. BUT if you want to read your Kindle while it is also charging in your car, you may find, like I did that the cord is a bit too short for comfort. It’s nothing you can’t work around since there is a coil, but it may take a few uses to loosen up a bit. I just thought I’d you a bit of a heads up about it!

All in all a very good value for the price, and I did buy a second one for a friend so I really do recommend this product.

I’d also like to mention that I do love working with this company. Every time I need something from them they deliver within what seems to me like mere minutes LOL!, and if a product has become iffy…they work with you without complaint, easily and quickly giving you the best help you could ask for, all from the comfort of your own home. I love Gomadic.

5 Stars Rapid Car Auto Charger
Nothing is more madding than to be rideing in the car or Motor Home and have my Kindle battery go low .and be in the middle of a good book. This alows me to charge my Kindle while on the go. It’s the best.Thank You

Lynn

5 Stars KINDLE IN THE CAR = AWESOME
What’s to review about a car charger, right? I mean, you plug it in, it does the trick, you unplug it, there you have it.

Well, let’s see….

1. It’s well made. It doesn’t feel “cheap and hollow.” Have you ever used a sort of knock off brand cell phone charger…. you know with cheap metal parts and cheap plastic? This isn’t one of those.

2. Your Kindle will, in fact, charge pretty quickly. Now, I do want to point out that this item is sort of a luxury item in the sense that the Kindle DX charge lasts a loooooooooonnnnng time. But there will come a time when you’ve left your Whispernet on and the batter ran low, and you’re 8.5 hours into that long journey and you’re losing charge and you want to recharge. Well, here you go.

3. The cord doesn’t stretch all that far, but there’s really no hinderence at all. My Kindle DX is easily readable from the driver’s side, while plugged in – I kid, I kid… I don’t read the Kindle while driving. No, the limitation here is that if you have a power source in the front seat and you want to read while it’s charging from the back seat, no go.

4. Careful not to strain the connection areas. DON’T attempt to read with the cord fully stretched. You can a) pop the cord out of the power source and smack the person in the passenger seat with the blunt end or b) risk break off from the Kindle connection. That’s a no no. You don’t want pieces of the cord adapter stuck in your Kindle power port. (This hasn’t happened to me, but I’m aware of this sort of thing happening with other electronic adapters).

5. It’s difficult for me to complain about price because I recognize that this is an item of convenience. BUT, with all the things we have to plug in these days, I wish we didn’t have to have a zillion adapters – one for every possible device. By the time you spend $20 on adapters for your Kindle, Leapster, XM radio, cell phone, lap top, car vacuum, air pump, and backseat blender (again, I kid) you’re out a bunch of money for a device that, in the instance of the Kindle DX, you might find isn’t used all that much.

HELPFUL TIP: If you’ve got one of those label makers – you know, the kind that you can type out something that comes out on a ribbon. MAKE a lable for each adapter and wrap the label around the cord, taping it to itself (like a little tab or flag hanging off the side) and you’ll NEVER forget which adapter goes to what device, ever again.

Solid product, works great, saves time, not necessary, probably, but it does what it is supposed to do!

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars The perfect accessory, and excellent service
When I ordered this product, I expected to wait 6 weeks to ship; however, it arrived in a little over 2 weeks. What a pleasant surprise!

The Hinge Jacket arrives in fairly minimal packaging, adequate to protect the product, but not wasteful. The instructions to insert and remove the Kindle from the jacket are straightforward and clear.

This Jacket provides excellent protection for the Kindle 2, while being comfortable to use: it’s rigid where it contacts the device, but its spine is soft and flexible for comfort. The strap keep the cover securely closed in my pack, and the right-side elastic corners hold the Kindle firmly to the back of the jacket – this case won’t crack your Kindle like the Amazon case might.

A soft spine allows the jacket to fold over for comfortable one-handed reading, and there is space between the device and the spine for the forthcoming M-Edge reading light. While I found this space made operating the Kindle with my left hand more comfortable, this might be a challenge for those with tiny hands. Fortunately, the Kindle aligns nearly flush with the right-hand side of the jacket – if you have small hands, one-handed reading is best done with your right hand.

The only real criticism I have is that the closure strap is a little bit fussy at first. I had some irritation getting it properly secured, and a little bit more getting it to fold out of the way when reading. Spending a bit over a week with it, though, and the material relaxes – I no longer have this issue.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

4 Stars Great cover for Kindle
I really like this cover for my Kindle. It’s not much bigger than a thin paperback. It fits in my handbag, keeps the Kindle protected, and is inexpensive. I would recommend this cover to anyone with a Kindle.

5 Stars Great cover!
The only thing that I’m not so sure I like is that it’s kinda hard to put the close part into the book, the little flap thingy. But otherwise, my husband says that it works great! Seems very well made and durable!

5 Stars A quality, cruelty-free cover
This cover is great. It has a handy inside pocket and protects the Kindle while maintaining a “book-like” appearance and feel. Also, for those of us who care about animals, it’s cool that you offer a quality cover that is not made from dead animal skins.

2 Stars Item Took Over a Month to Arrive; Loose Strap
Three weeks after placing the order, it still had not arrived. When I attempted to cancel the order, I was unable to. The product finally arrived after one month of ordering it. Overall, the product is average. Since purchase, the strap has gotten loose and doesn’t really keep the Kindle secure. I guess that has alot to do with the fact that leather stretches.

OCTO Messenger Bag Fits 6 Display Latest Generation Kindle

OCTO Messenger Bag Fits 6 Display Latest Generation Kindle

This unisex stylish messenger bag is made from Italian leather and has a purposely designed inside pocket to hold the Kindle 2. Not only is it useful for carrying the Kindle 2, but it can be used to for carrying necessary day to day items. Suitable for men and women, this bag eliminates the need to carry around 2 bags.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars love it, goes great with the kindle wallet case.
the 2 best products for those who truely dont leave home with out it, are here… one is a wallet that holds your kindle and all your credit cards, ID, checkbook, a spiral notebook fits in also perfectly. its amazing, etc, THE other is a bag that the wallet fits in perfectly, as well as a pocket for your cell phone, keys, and other must have things. [...]

5 Stars Great Kindle Bag
I had scoped this bag out, contemplating if I wanted to buy it. With an upcoming trip to the West Coast, I knew that I wanted to have this bag for my Kindle, charger, and light. I am impressed and glad that I purchased the bag. It still has enough room to carry anything else I need and I know for sure where my Kindle is due to the special pocket for it.

3 Stars Just a bit too small
It’s not that I don’t like the bag. I do, but for one, small issue.

The space for the Kindle 2 does not easily accommodate the M-Edge Prodigy Hinge Jacket. After forcing my Kindle 2, with its jacket, into the opening and pulling the securing bands into place I had an epiphany. I didn’t want to fight with the bag every time I wanted to put my Kindle away and hit the road.

I don’t want to do it the first X-number of times it may require to stretch the opening and distort the shape of the bag and I am unwilling the remove my K2 from it’s jacket. So, the OCTO Messenger Bag for the Kindle 2 is being returned.

So close, but for me, no cigar.

**** EDIT **** July 31, 2009 **** EDIT ****

I purchased a Kozmic Leather Messenger Travel Bag as a replacement.

4 Stars Convenient
This is a practical and unobtrusive messenger bag. I use it when I travel by bus or subway, and do not have any accessories other than the Kindle 2 with its cover. It looks more like a camera case than a purse. I use a briefcase instead when I have other accessories, e.g. papers or netbook. The bag is made of a durable material, and the flap, the closing snaps with which I personally have had no particular difficulty, is effective in keeping out rain. There does not seem to be (as yet anyway) a comparable product for the 9″ Kindle, so I may look around for a larger messenger bag, but for either the Kindle 1 or 2, this bag is worth the price.

1 Star Wonderful idea but poorly executed. Looks cheap.
The Bad:

I was so excited to receive this case, but I was very disappointed and returned it immediately. When I opened the top flap, the pockets were crooked! I wish Amazon would let me attach a picture to show how awful it looked. On closer examination, it appeared that the problem wasn’t the way the pockets were sewn, but rather the stretchy material that forms the sides (but not the front) of each pocket — it’s like extra-thick elastic, and it doesn’t lie flat, so it makes the flat faux-leather front of the pocket lie at an angle. Truthfully, though, it LOOKED like the pockets had been glued on by someone’s five-year-old child.

The snaps are awkward and difficult to close unless you don’t mind squishing the whole bag at the bottom (and risk squeezing/breaking anything inside it, I’d think).

From a distance (and in the small pictures) this bag looks fine, even nice. Up close, though, the surface looks kindof cheap and shiny, and because of the crooked-looking pockets, I’d be embarrassed to open it in public.

The Good:

However, the inside pocket where your Kindle goes is perfectly sized, actually quite soft, and seems like it would keep the Kindle secure. The shoulder strap is a perfect length for wearing the bag across your body. And, as others have mentioned, it’s surprisingly roomy — more than enough room for lip gloss, keys, sunglasses, and wallet.

Really, if I could have this same design made of better materials, I’d give it five stars.
