2 Year Extended Warranty for Kindle DX 9 7 Display U S Wireless Latest Generation

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Kindle DX
Outstanding and a delight to use. My only objection is that figures do not display well.

4 Stars Amazon was quick to resolve an overcharge
As I am now the proud owner of two DXs with two EWs, I decided to read all the reviews. I can now say that I am alerted to the deficiencies with this policy. A bit pricey for only one year added on, albeit it does add in one

“accidental” replacement – something that is not in the original Amazon warranty.

KUDOS to Amazon for correcting what I thought was a rip-off on shipping. There was an extra $5.45 charge (which I thought was for shipping) that turned out to be a sales tax that was inadvertently charged. Amazon discovered this and refunded my credit card. I even received a phone call from Amazon’s Kindle customer service. I am impressed!

When I emailed them again informing them that I had the same issue with my second DX warranty, they corrected that problem also within one day!

Re what the warranty covers: I am also quite a bit disillusioned to learn that the EW does not cover battery failure. However, I guess IF you have not exercised your one “accidental damage” replacement, you could always “accidentally” drop this puppy from a decent height, ensuring its complete demise. Then, your battery issues are kind of, shall we say, instantaneously resolved. (Did I just say that in an open forum? Shame on me — shame on YOU for listening! LOL)

One thing I will do during the first year, on either one of my DXs, if I experience a malfunction — I will FIRST contact Amazon and pursue their first-year warranty. I suspect the customer service from Amazon will be exemplary.

1 Star Better values are available
First, I love my new Kindle DX—but I bought it because I dropped my old Kindle (which I’ve had for a couple of years and also loved). Dropping it created a 3-4 line area of the screen that no longer worked. Because of that experience, I decided to purchase an extended warranty on my Kindle DX, despite the fact that I generally consider extended warranties a rip off…the chance of dropping your Kindle and ruining it is very real. Fortunately, I read these reviews and saw the suggestion to investigate SquareTrade. I ended up purchasing the SquareTrade warranty which was 3 years instead of 2 and was $20 less than the price of this warranty (adding coverage for drops and spills was additional and the “$20 less” includes that additional coverage). I like Amazon a lot and use it for a lot of purchases, but in this case Amazon should have done their homework and offered the SquareTrade warranty instead of this one…it’s a much better value. Because of the risk of dropping your Kindle and the disastrous affects of doing so, this is one of those rare cases where an extended warranty is at least worth considering.

1 Star Advertised without specificty or comparison with other Kindle models
Kindle makes 2 models of readers. However, the advertising ofr accessories is unclear with respect to which model it will fit.

5 Stars Extended Warranty Inadequate for Kindle DX
I heartily agree with the previous reviewers about the inadequacy of the extended warranty contract for the excellent Kindle DX. I believe that Amazon should find a repair service with fixed prices for the most likely repair needs such as (1) battery replacement (2) wearing out or fracturing of the plastic knob of the 5-way,or failure of its electronic contacts through frequent use (3) memory replacement or eventual upgrade, etc. These things may well occur within the first two or three years and unless a repair service is available there goes $500 down the tube plus access to the Kindle’s data and books.

All that said the Kindle DX is a marvelous item of which I had planned to buy additional copies as gifts for grandchildren, however, I certainly will not do so unless a reasonable repair service is established. I inquired by telepone of Amazon and was told that the only such resource would be the initial year’s warranty and purchase of the inadequate extended warranty.
